As one the most respected professionals in the athletic and fitness industry in Las Vegas, Mel Spicer brings over 20 years of experience from the world of football, strength and conditioning, martial arts, self-defense and fitness.
As the current Co-owner and CEO of Game Changers Sports, he conducts numerous programs in youth athletics and adult fitness. Working his way from the ground up ,Spicer has been in all aspects of the industry from trainer to manager to owner and from competitor to coach. Spicer has earned the Coach of the Year honors from the National Youth Sports of Nevada football League. His coaching credentials go beyond youth sports. He has also coached football on a high school level, coached amateur boxing teams and personally trained numerous athletes, such triathlete’s adventure racer and fitness competitors.
Spicer has previously owned and operated training facilities in Las Vegas such as Phase1Sports from 2011-2015, Super fit Training Center from 2007-2010, Round 1 Boxing from 2004-2006 and worked at several other gyms as a trainer - 24 Hour Fitness, Gold’s Gym and the Las Vegas Athletic Club. Working at these gyms and facilities has helped him gain experience throughout his career.
Born and raised in Canonsburg, Pa Spicer spent most of his youth playing football and running track in the greater Pittsburgh, Pa area. Recognized for his athletic talents, Spicer received a scholarship to play football for Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. After College Spicer enlisted into the United States Navy where he served 9 years, 7 of them as a Navy S.E.A.L. Upon entering the Navy he began his martial arts training, studying various disciplines throughout; such as Aikido, Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, and Boxing.
Drawing from his education and experiences in the martial arts, sports and extreme strength and conditioning from the Navy S.E.A.L.s, Spicer has applied an unconventional approach to his training methods. He has created a unique brand of wellness and fitness in the Las Vegas area. His core beliefs is that superior conditioning is a result of education, motivation, and successful training techniques. Therefore he incorporates training methods that are tried and true since the onset of training. In addition, he looks to the most recent findings in the world of sports science research and development as a basis for his training methodologies.
